Announcing GAAQG Challenges to Connect

By Juliana Cerra

February 1, 2021

Welcome to an exciting new way to stay connected in 2021!

This online activity offers monthly prompts to spark creativity and share projects with other guild members. Any work from past or present is welcome, just explain how it demonstrates the challenge for you. Best of all, no deadlines! If you want to participate in a certain challenge but aren’t finished at the end of that month, no worries! Simply add the prompt title to your post when ready to share.

Challenges to Connect is essentially a virtual show and tell, allowing us to stay in touch through the year ahead within a creative framework. It’s always interesting to see how many different ways a prompt can be interpreted and get to know each other through our projects!

We’ll use Facebook and Instagram* to connect, share, encourage and inspire each other. Feel free to share work in progress too!

Here’s an example: February Challenge – Words to Live By

Celebrate a book or poem that has influenced you in a small work (24” or less) and use at least 2 techniques, but no actual text. Please reference the author/work in your title.

I might choose “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns, using piecing, applique, and embroidery to highlight this block to reflect the poem.  This is a literal approach, but can be anything you choose. Then I’ll take a picture with my phone and share on Instagram and Facebook.
