A Taste of Summer Carnival
Appropriate level: Confident beginner to advanced
Half-Scrap, a few constant fabrics and a whole mess of scraps, is how Mickey Depre makes traditional pieced quilts. The Summer Carnival Workshop is brimming with color and fabric choice exercises, and tips and tricks for using specialty rulers/tools.
You’ll make the Meems quilt block in the Summer Carnival quilt from Mickey’s Half Scraps Quilts book and will finish a few blocks in class. Strips of fabric 1.5” and 2.5” wide are sewn, cut, and sewn again to give this quilt a confetti-like appearance. The quilt can be done with a focus fabric. Mickey suggests a min. of a half yard or 1.5 yards if you are using the star triangles. Why not two focus fabrics and break the blocks into two groups for a checkerboard look? Or just grab a bag of scraps and 3-4 fat quarters and play with color/fabric combos to make these blocks sing!
NOTE: A bonus table runner pattern will be provided. This table runner uses just a few blocks that can be finished in class. If you wish to start your full-size quilt, just cut some of the yardage into the strips indicated on the supply list to make your day easier.
