Free and Easy

In Free and Easy Paula Golden will show you a liberating approach to quilt making where there are no right or wrong answers! Explore color and design while creating a wall quilt using non-traditional sewing techniques. We will also talk about critics of our work and how to identify them, how to identify our style of quilt making, practice “letting loose” exercises.  Paula’s creative exercises are designed to build self confidence and unleash our creativity by learning to let go of our own inner critics and free us from the fear of stepping outside our creative comfort zones. Each student’s quilt top will be different depending on the fabric that is brought to the workshop. Said Paula, “I had zebras in my stash on the day I made the sample!”

Paula will also share machine quilting tips, e.g. how to design quilting lines to create movement and depth by following the print in the fabrics.  Aching neck and shoulders when you quilt?  Paula will share quilting ergonomics information to save the wear and tear on our bodies caused by too many hours at our sewing machines.

Paula brings all the tools in her toolbox to every workshop and gives 110% if not more.  “I am not a teacher who cracks jokes or who has an outlandish personality. However, I have had a passion for quilt making, quilt history, quilters and the art for over 40 years.  I think that comes through in each class. We are part of a long river of fiber enthusiasts and share many things in common.”

Paula’s work is part of the permanent collection of the University of Michigan Hospital’s Gifts of Arts Program.
