“Playing with Fabrics”
Lecture description: Unusual fabric choices is a hallmark of my pictorial quilt style. In this presentation, I will discuss the design qualities inherent in printed fabrics and the ways fabric choices contribute to the overall visual impact of a quilt. Quilts from many ears as well as my own work serve to illustrate how I select and audition printed fabrics that bring pictorial quilts to life.
This lecture follows the business meeting on Quilt Day.

Give new life to magazine clippings and combine them with fabric to make beautiful and unique fiber art. First you will design your block using paper and hand-dyed fabric. Then you will cut, fuse and hand stitch the pieces in place. This is a great opportunity to learn how to stitch on paper. There will also be a demonstration on how to laminate and foil the magazine clippings. The class is intended for all student levels who would like to explore techniques with different materials beyond fabrics.

THIS IS A LIVE, ONLINE CLASS TAUGHT ON THE ZOOM PLATFORM
The lure of indigo is strong — the classic blue and white combination found in many Japanese textiles is cool, crisp, and so appealing. From classic kimonos to denim jeans, indigo has been used by many cultures for dyeing cloth, and the Japanese have refined the use of indigo to an art form. This is the class to use all those lovely blue and white shibori fabrics you’ve dyed yourself, or use carefully curated blue and white fabrics from your stash. Each participant will develop a simple geometric block design based on unfolded origami shapes, set a theme and create variations, and combine them into the beginning of a fresh and modern mini quilt top.
A required $10 kit fee will be payable directly to David. You will receive a link to his website when the kits are available. An optional blue and white fabric kit is available that includes vintage Japanese yukata cotton prints (price to be determined)
The class runs from 9:30 AM-4:00 PM Eastern Time with a 1/2 hour break for lunch. The Zoom classroom opens at 9:00 AM and students should be online by 9:15 AM.
