Outer Limits–Edge Finishing Techniques
Appropriate level: All levels–some knowledge of traditional binding is useful
Are you bored with plain bindings on your quilts? Are you yearning to explore the outer limits and try something new? This class explores edgier edges under the guidance of a nationally known, respected teacher! Jane Davila will introduce an assortment of 20 different ways to finish quilt edges using hand and machine sewing as well as non-traditional materials and supplies. You’ll make small samples that cover as many finishing options as possible during class. These samples can be used for future reference when you’re finishing a quilt and contemplating the edges.
About half of the techniques will be done by machine and half by hand; a few combine both hand and machine work. Although best suited for art quilts, some of these techniques are applicable to traditional and modern quilts. There’s so much more you can do to finish the edges of your quilts with thoughtful, innovative techniques – you’ll never look at binding the same way again! Bonus: Jane’s unusual hanging and display ideas are covered at the end of class!
