The Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild July 15, 2017 Quilt Day featured announcement of our 2018 speakers/teachers by Vice-president for Programs Susan Schwandt and an inspiring lecture by Carole Harris.

Don’t miss Harris’ retrospective show, “Bearing Witness” at the University of Michigan NCRC through August 23, 2017.

Garage Sale

Garage sale coordinator Carol Repasky reported gross sales of $2400, with $500 donation for Safe House Center. Thank you to Repasky for her outstanding work and to our members for their donations and purchases. 




GAAQG board news

The guild is seeking a Vice-president of Membership for 2018. This position is term limited and current membership vice-president Erika Keith has now served for two years. If you are familiar with Excel and databases or seeking to learn a new skill, please contact Kathy Johnson at for more information.

The following officers have agreed to a second one-year term:  Kathy Johnson as president, Susan Schwandt as vice-president of programs and Roberta Myyra as secretary. Since our current guild treasurer Claudia Tam is also term-limited after two years of service, Pat Timberlake-Turk has agreed to be guild treasurer for 2018.


Quilt University 2017 free “Make & Take” evening classes

Zippered pouch, mug rug and bangle bracelets: three of six “Make and Take” free evening workshops offered at Quilt University 2017.

Quilt University 2017 is only two weeks away: July 28, 29, 30, however Class registrations closed on July 22, 2017,  and meal reservations closed on July 15. Wanda Nash and Katie McGrath shared QU 2017 evening activities at our July meeting. There will be three “Make and Take” projects on Friday evening, and three new projects on Saturday evening. All who are registered for QU 2017 may participate at no cost, with all supplies provided. 

Program news

Program Vice-president Susan Schwandt presented the next two workshop instructors; Barb Vedder will teach on Sept. 15 and 17, 2017 ; and Paula Golden  will teach on Nov. 17 and 19, 2017. September 16, 2017 SafeHouse sewing event

The guild will hold a SafeHouse sewing event after our September 16, 2017 meeting at the Morris Lawrence Building, WCC campus, 4800 E. Huron River Drive in Ann Arbor.

All are invited to bring your sewing machine for a free fun afternoon of sewing. Easy patterns and fabric are provided. Sew in a group or by yourself. No portable sewing machine? Come anyway; we always need people to iron and cut fabric. Irons, ironing boards, rotary cutters and mats are provided. Beginners and advanced quilters are welcome. Make new friends and see how many quilt tops we can make in one afternoon for the families at SafeHouse Center.

Two of 25 handmade quilts donated to SafeHouse Center at July 15, 2017 GAAQG Quilt Day — bringing the total donated quilts thus far in 2017 to 171 quilts.
