GAAQG Library ‘Book Candy’

“Book candy.” That is how to describe the newly-purchased quilting books for the guild’s library. These 20 books are as irresistible as M & Ms. It’s difficult to resist browsing at only one.
Using the proceeds from our book sale last year and the suggestions of members, the guild’s librarians chose books with subjects ranging from machine quilting to color theory, improvisational quilting to modern quilting, to art quilting and design.
Machine quilting is a challenging skill for many quilters to master. The trend for dense machine quilting, grid quilting, and a wide assortment of free motion quilting continues. New books include: “Rulerwork Quilting” by Amanda Murphy, “Walk” by Jacquie Gering, and “Free Motion Meandering” by Angela Walters.
Understanding color and how to take your quilts from “OK” to “Wow!” is another skill many quilters strive to improve. For this, consider browsing through “Color Play, Second Edition” by Joen Wolfrom and “Intuitive Color and Design” by Jean Wells.
If your goal is to go beyond sewing traditional patchwork patterns, new additions to the library include “Improv Patchwork” by Maria Shell and “Artful Improv” by Cindy Grisdela.
If you prefer the familiarity of patchwork and applique, but with a fresher look that includes updated prints, check out “Patches of Blue” by Edyta Sitar or “Patchwork City” by Elizabeth Hartman.
If your taste tends towards bigger, bolder, and a love for fresh simple modern blocks, take a look at “Quilt with Tula and Angela” by Tula Pink and Angela Walters, or “Cozy Modern Quilts” by Kim Schaefer.
If art quilting is your passion, “Mixed-Media Master Class” by Sherrill Kahn, “Intuitive Color & Design, Second Edition” by Jean Wells, and “Fabulous Facades” are filled with techniques and methods for use in your next quilt creations.
These titles, and a few more, will be on display at the guild’s library table during our next Quilt Day.
When looking for new ideas, inspiration, or a way to expand your sewing skills, browse through the entire library on the website. The LibraryThings book list can be accessed when you are logged in as a member. Click on the library tab (under Resources), scroll down the library page to the spot on the right below the blue blog “Subscribe Today” button and click on “Books from my LibraryThing.”
If you find any that you would like to reserve, fill out the form on the website Library page and you can pick them up on Quilt Day. Enjoy!
