A call for 2-foot x 2-foot x This slide show and lecture shares stories of some of the triangles, the makers and the women honored with an emphasis on triangles made by women who would later become known quilters and those made to honor quilters. The stories range from fun to inspiring to heart breaking. The quilts range from exquisitely made to first efforts. In the end, this is the story of women responding to a moment in history through an international community art project. This event will be on the Zoom platform. Dana Jones designed and made Peace Cranes Over Hiroshima after a visit to the peace park that is at the epicenter of the World War II atomic bombing site in Hiroshima, Japan. This foundation-pieced quilt is based on an Origami folded peace-crane image from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Experience with foundation piecing (machine paper piecing) is needed for success making this quilt.

Our next in-person Quilt Show is scheduled for July 30-31, 2022, at Washtenaw Community College
GAAQG encourages all to attend our 17th biennial quilt show “Celebrate the Quilt 2022.” The show is open July 30 & 31, Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The show returns to its regular venue, in person, at the Morris Lawrence Building, Washtenaw Community College, 4800 E. Huron River Dr., Ann Arbor. Admission is $8 for one or both days.

Explore the mystery and excitement of creating a pieced abstract quilt with little or no plan. Students will be given several options in which to compose their design, and choose whatever feels right for them. We will discuss basic design and composition, color and value, quilting, and most importantly trusting your instincts. Sheila will demonstrate construction techniques for sewing curved seams and discuss some of the challenges you may run into with spontaneous design and piecing. This can be a Master Class, or beginner, and every level in between. Wherever you are is where we will start from. Each student receives ample one-on-one time in this workshop.

In this workshop, students will draw a design, create a full-scale pattern on freezer paper, and assemble the forms by Appli-piecing, which is part appliqué and part piecing. Sheila will guide students in composing a simple or complex design, and encourage that the process is undertaken with openness and ease. Students will play with shape, scale and movement. We will also discuss creating a value study, and then choosing your palette. Students will be provided with small compositions to assemble and become comfortable with the technique before they start designing

This fast paced workshop encourages participants to showcase vintage quilt top fragments into a contemporary quilt. Vintage blocks are set with a twisted template into an exciting new setting.
