Sharon McConnell Teaching at GAAQG in November, 2019
Color and value and fabrics are what motivate Sharon McConnell. She falls into the modern traditional quilting style. Her love of modern quilting drives her to experiment with new layouts and looks for traditional designs. Sharon is a ruler and quilt pattern designer inspires quilters across our country.
With her mother as her teacher and quilting friend, she has been quilting for almost 20, years. After she became a quilt pattern designer she realized that she really enjoyed teaching. Each time she has an in-person event or class she is reminded how much more fun it is to sew with others and to share what she has learned. She feels rewarded when she has enabled quilters to try a project that they may not have done on their own.
After completing a class, students will come away with more confidence when sewing curved quilt blocks. Students will be surprised at how easy it is to achieve curved piecing and making quilts with modern designs. Everyone leaves with enough confidence to go home and finish their new quilt.
Sharon has designed a tool called the Classic Curves Ruler and it is used to make most of her quilts. Her quilts are modern with a traditional twist and they have a lot of color. Looking at fabric and drawing to create new quilt designs inspires her when she goes into a creative slump. Sometimes cleaning her sewing studio helps her to become creative again. The studio is where she shoots her YouTube videos and stores the fabric that she sells on her website https://colorgirlquilts.com/.
