July 27-28, 2024, “Celebrate Our Quilts” – our biennial quilt show – returns so members can display and share their one-of-a-kind creations with the public.

The GAAQG Quilt Show is non-juried, and all members are encouraged to enter. Quilters present pieces made with skills ranging from beginner through expert. Show attendees vote for their favorite quilts, and “Viewers’ Choice” winners will be awarded ribbons. The public can purchase a quilt in support of our SafeHouse Center charitable fundraiser.

Our 2022 quilt show drew over 1300 attendees. This year’s show is again located at the Morris Lawrence Building on the Washtenaw Community College campus in Ann Arbor.

Guild members can enter quilts on the members only quilt show page until 11:59 p.m. April 30, no exceptions. The show layout team suggests entering up to two quilts, with an optional third. They were able to find room to display the third quilt for everyone in 2022. They also need a photo for each quilt, even if it is unfinished. The colors help to place them for the best effect.

For each quilt entered, members must volunteer for two hours, up to a maximum of four hours. The volunteer hours apply to quilts in either the main show or the special exhibits.

The link to the online signup sheet is on the members only quilt page. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer before, during, and after the show.

Finally, members drop off their finished quilts Friday, July 26, from 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Morris Lawrence Building at the WCC campus.

This community art event promises a little of everything: amazing works of art, shopping opportunities, and a chance for quality time with friends. The hours are Saturday, July 27, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 28, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for everyone 12 years of age and over. Admission covers both days. The address is the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw College, 4800 E Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.

What Are You Making for the Quilt Show ...... and the Gift Shop?

Our guild has 250 members, and wouldn’t it be wonderful to see each member enter a piece in the show?  Small, medium, large, extra-large; art quilt, traditional quilt, a piece of quilted clothing – all are enthusiastically welcomed and awaited!

And don’t forget about contributing items for the Gift Shop! We accept new, well-made pieces of any size and type –  table toppers, placemats, small handmade gift items, bags/purses, dolls, pillowcases, ornaments, etc. Please attach a gift shop donation form (also on the members only quilt show page ) to your item and bring it to our May Quilt Day

It would be nice to hope that Old Man Winter has come and gone, but, realistically, he may be hanging around, waiting to pounce a few more times. Let’s keep our minds looking toward Spring by plunging into our stashes and deep diving into our creative selves!
