Dana Jones designed and made Peace Cranes Over Hiroshima after a visit to the peace park that is at the epicenter of the World War II atomic bombing site in Hiroshima, Japan. This foundation-pieced quilt is based on an Origami folded peace-crane image from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Experience with foundation piecing (machine paper piecing) is needed for success making this quilt.
Best for intermediate to advanced quilters.
The class runs from 9:30 AM-4:00 PM Eastern Time with a 1/2 hour break for lunch. This workshop will be held via Zoom.

Explore the mystery and excitement of creating a pieced abstract quilt with little or no plan. Students will be given several options in which to compose their design, and choose whatever feels right for them. We will discuss basic design and composition, color and value, quilting, and most importantly trusting your instincts. Sheila will demonstrate construction techniques for sewing curved seams and discuss some of the challenges you may run into with spontaneous design and piecing. This can be a Master Class, or beginner, and every level in between. Wherever you are is where we will start from. Each student receives ample one-on-one time in this workshop.
Best for confident beginners to advanced quilters.

In this workshop, students will draw a design, create a full-scale pattern on freezer paper, and assemble the forms by Appli-piecing, which is part appliqué and part piecing. Sheila will guide students in composing a simple or complex design, and encourage that the process is undertaken with openness and ease. Students will play with shape, scale and movement. We will also discuss creating a value study, and then choosing your palette. Students will be provided with small compositions to assemble and become comfortable with the technique before they start designing
Best for confident beginners to advanced quilters.
