Quilt Show 2020 – Celebrate the Quilt – July 25-26
On July 25-26, 2020, GAAQG will hold its 16th Biennial Quilt Show, “Celebrate the Quilt 2020” at the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College. Every even-numbered year, GAAQG members create items to enter into this non-juried show. Our show draws more than 1,200 quilt enthusiasts from throughout southeast Michigan and beyond. This dynamic show features more than 250 member-made entries hung in the main show and Special Exhibits; 25 vendors, door prizes generously donated by our quilt show vendors, and a Bid or Buy Bazaar (formerly called the Silent Auction).
We celebrate the accomplishments of beginning and expert quilters alike. With a membership of nearly 300, the broad range of styles and quilts reflects the diversity of our members and the broader quilt-making world. Attendees will see traditional quilts, art quilts, mixed media quilts; quilts intended to be loved enthusiastically by children or taken to college; quilts intended for family heirlooms or eventual purchase by collectors; hand and machine piecing, hand and machine quilting, hand and machine applique; commercial fabrics and hand-dyed fabrics; commercial patterns and original designs from the maker – they will all be there!
Special Focus for Quilt Show 2020: With “Celebrate the Quilt 2020” we are taking the opportunity to honor what we learn from the speakers who come to our guild to give lectures and workshops. This Special Focus will meander throughout the show via acknowledgements on the exhibit cards next to each quilt. Visitors to the show will have the opportunity to register for upcoming workshops or to join the guild and attend all of the Quilt Day lectures.

Special Exhibits: In addition to our annual exhibit of quilts made by members for donation to SafeHouse, Celebrate the Quilt 2020 has two special exhibits created by GAAQG small groups: the Monet Challenge from the Eight Mile Radius Group and Quilt Rescue 9-1-1 by the Quilt Study Group.
Bid or Buy Bazaar (formerly called the Silent Auction): More than 300 beautiful and unique quilted pieces made by our members and donated as a fundraiser to help offset the cost of producing the show are available for immediate purchase or bidding from our new ‘Bid or Buy Bazaar.’ This new format allows attendees to either immediately purchase the item of their choice or participate in bidding which closes at the end of each day. Just like the larger show, these handcrafted items reflected the wonderful diversity of styles and techniques of our members.
Vendors: A variety of 25 vendors from Michigan and other states will offer their wares.
Food: Snacks and items for lunch will be available for purchase from food trucks during show hours.
We hope you will join us on July 25-26, 2020 to Celebrate the Quilt!
