Volunteer Opportunities

GAAQG is an organization that is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteering means accepting a specific responsibility as a member to accomplish work for the Guild. There are many tasks, both large and small, that make our Guild vibrant, from serving as an officer to helping at one of our special events.

When you renew your membership annually, you can express an interest in volunteering or sharing a special skill you have so that the Guild can contact you for advice or assistance with a special project.

Another way is to respond when an announcement is made for volunteers for a specific task.

There are many ways to become involved, whether you have a little time or a lot. Look over the list of opportunities to see ways in which you might serve now or in the future and make new friends in the process!  Guild volunteers are eligible to participate in an annual drawing for the Worker’s Quilt, presented at the November Quilt Day.

Some Opportunities:

Editing Assistant

The guild communicates with both members and the public through a variety of communication channels such as the  website, email, blog posts.  We often need those with writing and editing talents to help us with some of these tasks.  Contact guildcommunications@gaaqg.com

Officers

Each year we nominate Officers to run the everyday operations of our guild.  These are critical leadership positions that develop and carry out our mission.  The elected positions are:  President, Vice-President for Programs, Vice-President for Membership, Co-Treasurers, and Secretary.  There are also essential appointed positions:  Co-Webmasters, Social Media Manager, and Blog Manager.  Contact president@gaaqg.com

Program Workshop Assistant

Program volunteers are needed to assist with various program and workshop responsibilities during our Quilt Day events. Examples of tasks include: picking up the speaker at the airport or hotel if the speaker is from out of state, serving as a classroom assistant to distribute handouts and kits, assisting with room setup and cleanup for the workshops, staffing the workshop table on Quilt Day, etc. Contact programs@gaaqg.com.

Quilt Show

There are many volunteers who make our Quilt Show happen every even-numbered year.   From admissions, to the Gift Shop, to helping to set up and take down the show, there are jobs large and small.  Our next show will occur July 27-28, 2024 at Washtenaw Community College.  Contact quiltshow@gaaqg.com.

 SafeHouse Fabrics/Sales

Volunteers help sort, organize, and store donated fabric for distribution to members. Members can take fabric to make quilts for Safe House or make donations if they want the fabric for personal use. Contact safehousefabrics@gaaqg.com.
